“Sometimes I think about”
This project originated as a recycled and reimagined version of an older work called "The Dummy Protocol", rebuilt in response to a request from a professor at ICLA Yamanashi Gakuin University in Kofu, Japan. The occasion was an acoustic night event where three projectors on the rooftop next to the stage needed to be filled with visuals.
The core visual elements combine a particle system based tree structure with practical effects shot as live footage. To create the lightning effects, I filmed myself in front of a camera with a pixelate filter applied in real time through TouchDesigner, giving the footage an abstract, electrical quality. Because the lightning was captured through actual hand movements, the timing could be matched precisely to the music.
The puppet dance animation is a combination of Mixamo library animations and custom animation work, modified and refined in Blender before being brought into TouchDesigner. There, parameters like speed, rotation, and movement intensity were driven by audio analysis of a music track, producing the irregular, reactive motion that defines the piece. The project consists of three scenes across five camera perspectives.
The final edit was assembled in DaVinci Resolve, where the different rendered cuts were combined and shaped using dynamic digital zooms and color work to arrive at the finished piece.
